In a classic pitcher’s duel, Chariho edged West Warwick, 1-0, in the league opener for both teams.

Chariho’s Leo Emery (1/2, one rbi) and Darren Clarke (1/2) led the team in hitting.

While West Warwick’s Anthony Burt limited Chariho to just one run on three hits through five innings, the green and white used a quartet of pitchers to shutout WWCM. Andrew Smith (4 strikeouts in two innings) and Ethan Gordon (one strikeout in two innings) kept the black and orange scoreless through four innings. Adam Carpenter, the Division II Cy Young Award winner picked up the win with four strikeouts in the fifth and sixth inning. Jack Stevens picked up the save by striking out the side in the seventh inning.

Offensively, WWCM, who actually outhit Chariho, 4-3, received hits from Brendan Griffin, Nate Hunt, Anthony Burt and Joe Riviera.
